Bayview Village garage cleanout rules: what goes where

Clearing a garage in Bayview Village? Here's how Toronto's waste rules actually work — what the City collects at the curb, what needs a transfer station, and what you can't dump at all — so your cleanout doesn't stall at the last step.

Curbside rules

What the City of Toronto collects

  • Regular garbage goes out on your scheduled collection day in City-issued bins — loose piles beside the bin are not collected.
  • Oversized items (furniture, mattresses, appliances without refrigerant) can go to the curb on garbage day — no appointment needed in Toronto.
  • Yard waste (branches, leaves) needs kraft paper bags or a labelled open container on yard-waste collection weeks — never plastic bags.
  • Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must have the refrigerant removed and tagged by a certified technician before the City will take them.

Rules change — confirm current collection details on the City of Toronto's waste calendar before your cleanout day.

The no-list

What you can't dump in a mixed load

  • Paint, solvents, motor oil and other household hazardous waste — these go to a City of Toronto Drop-Off Depot, never the curb or a trailer load.
  • Tires, car batteries and propane tanks — accepted at Drop-Off Depots, not in mixed loads.
  • Electronics (TVs, computers) — Drop-Off Depot or an approved e-waste program.
  • Anything containing asbestos — requires licensed abatement before removal.

The fast plan

A full garage, gone in one afternoon

  1. 1

    Sort before you pile

Pull out hazardous items, electronics and tires first. Everything left — furniture, boxes, tools, shelving, renovation offcuts — can go in one mixed load.

  2. 2

Check what the City takes free

If it's just a couch and a mattress, the curb on garbage day may be enough. A full garage of mixed junk is where a cleanout pays for itself.

  3. 3

    Donate what's still good

Working furniture and housewares can go to local charities before you pay to dump them. Less weight, lower cost.

  4. 4

    Book the cleanout

Text 2 photos of the pile to (647) 550-6633 for a firm all-in price in about 5 minutes. We load, haul and dump at a licensed transfer station — usually same or next day in Bayview Village.
